The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, also known as the McCarran Walter Act, broke a barrier for Asian immigration to the United States. However, the Act also masked the continued discrimination and gave a large preference to European immigrants, while also being discriminatory towards Asian immigrants, causing many controversies.
